The Birthday Song!

I had no birthday cake on the day itself. When I called my mom I even told her "My, wala koy cake." Hahaha! But I was cool with it since I told my sister that I should have one by the time la familia will arrive in Cebu. Hahaha! Needless to say, regardless of the birthday cake, my birthday was still a blast because of all the greetings and the well-wishes that I received.

Monday. When I went back to work, I told my officemates the no birthday cake story. And so, upon hearing this, Edna promised she will give me that cute flower candle so I can use it for my cake. But days after that conversation, they surprised me with this:
Thank you Edna! Thank you to everyone who was there who sang the birthday song. Doctor Arvie and Kym for the pictures. Grace for being the accomplice. Thank you! The candle is the cutest!

Friday. The family arrived in Cebu early morning. We had lunch at Hukad (Golden Cowrie) and ate connived with the staff so they sang to me a unique Cebuano rendition of the birthday song. I'm not really mestisa so I'm not sure if I turned red but I sure felt like I blushed. With all the people turning their heads at our direction. Whew! Thank you still. ;)

We went to Casa Verde for dinner, Manong said it will be the early celebration of his birthday. While we were attacking our dessert, we saw some staff shaking the tambourine towards our table *holding my breath, eye-to-eye contact with Manong*. Phew! We both sighed with relief when the staff went straight to the table beside us, shaking the tambourine louder. But when they were about to sing they made a 180-degree turn and faced us. Sigh of relief no more. Hahaha! While they were singing, Manong and I kept pointing at each other as to who is really the celebrant. Who won?
Yes! I get to blow the candle. I get greetings from neighboring tables. I'm getting used to this. Hahaha!

Just when you thought that was it and that I was used to it, there's more. We stayed at Radisson Blu so we had free buffet breakfast. Yes!you guessed it! Ate asked the staff to sing again. No "pointing" this time though, as Manong was not on our table yet when they sang to me. When the coast was clear, he arrived and we shared the cake. (*More stories of their visit in another entry*)

It was a great celebration. I couldn't have asked for more. Thank you Lord for family and friends. ;)
